Terms of Service — Homebrew Hero
Effective Date: 11 August 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Homebrew Hero (the "App"), developed and operated by a solo, UK-based developer ("we", "us", "our"), contactable at homebrew.hero.app@gmail.com. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms.
The App is currently in closed beta testing. Features, pricing, and limits described below may change before public launch, and we'll update these Terms when they do.
1. Eligibility and acceptable use
You must be able to form a binding contract to use the App, and old enough in your jurisdiction to legally engage with content about producing alcoholic beverages (the App itself contains no age gate beyond this requirement, but its subject matter — home brewing beer, wine, and cider — assumes an adult user).
You agree to use the App only for its intended purpose (planning, tracking, and getting AI assistance with home brewing) and not to:
- Post unlawful, harassing, hateful, or abusive content in the Forum or chat
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with anyone
- Use the App to generate content that infringes someone else's intellectual property
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or abuse the App's backend or AI services beyond normal personal use
- Use the App for any commercial resale of its AI outputs without our permission
We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate this section.
2. Accounts
You must sign in with Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple to use the App. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. We are not responsible for losses caused by unauthorized access to your account resulting from your failure to secure your own device or credentials.
3. Subscription tiers ("Premium")
Homebrew Hero offers a free tier and three paid tiers: Standard, Power User, and Ultimate Brewer.
Important — how tiers actually work: every paid tier unlocks the exact same set of features (full AI recipe generation, AI tweak suggestions, the Hero AI troubleshooting assistant, full Forum access, timers, kit/equipment tracking, unlimited fermenters, retailer price search, priority support, ingredient inventory, batch history analytics, and more). Higher tiers do not unlock extra features that lower tiers lack. The only difference between paid tiers is how many brews you can start per month and your monthly AI fair use limit — a single combined allowance covering all AI-powered features (recipe generation, recipe tweaks, kit and recipe scanning, and Hero), specifically:
- Standard — 2 brews/month, with Standard AI fair use limits
- Power User — 4 brews/month, with Extended AI fair use limits
- Ultimate Brewer — unlimited brews per month, with High AI fair use limits
Your AI fair use limit renews monthly, anchored to the date you subscribed or last changed tier (not necessarily the 1st of the calendar month). If you change tiers mid-cycle, any unused allowance from your prior tier for that period is carried over into your new tier's first cycle as a one-time bonus. All AI-backed features also remain subject to a general fair-use daily limit to prevent abuse.
Pricing is shown in the App at the point of purchase and is subject to change. Exact current pricing and any annual-billing discount are as displayed in the App's Upgrade screen at checkout, via Apple's App Store or Google Play, and are not restated here as this document is not the source of truth for live pricing. Usage levels (brews and AI allowances per tier) are also subject to change following the current closed testing period.
3.1 Free tier limits
Without a subscription, you get a one-time, lifetime allowance of 1 brew total (not renewing monthly), with kit and instructions scanning available but no AI recipe generation or AI tweak suggestions. Free-tier users are shown ads (see our Privacy Policy, Section 2.8).
We may also offer limited, one-time ways to temporarily unlock a specific recipe or feature for free in exchange for watching an ad — these are occasional promotional mechanics, not a subscription, and can change or be withdrawn at any time.
3.2 One free tier per device
To keep the free tier fair to everyone, we limit each physical device to one lifetime free-tier allowance. If you've already used the free tier's 1 brew on a device, signing out and creating a new account (or signing in with a different Google/Apple identity) on that same device will not grant a second free-tier allowance — you'll need to subscribe to continue. This is enforced by a device-level check run against our servers when you sign in; see our Privacy Policy for what device data this involves.
4. Cancellation and refunds
Subscriptions are sold and billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, depending on which platform you downloaded the App from. As a result:
- Cancellations are managed through your Apple ID or Google Play account settings, not through us directly.
- Refunds are governed entirely by Apple's and Google's own refund policies and are issued (or denied) by Apple or Google, not by us. We do not process refunds directly and have no ability to override a store's refund decision.
If you believe you were charged in error, please contact Apple or Google support directly, or contact us at homebrew.hero.app@gmail.com and we will assist where we can (for example, by confirming your subscription status on our end).
5. Anti-abuse, tampering, and piracy
To protect the App, its AI costs, and other users, the following applies:
If we identify that you have tampered with the App, attempted to reverse-engineer it, bypassed or circumvented its normal operation, or unlocked premium features through unauthorized means (i.e., without a legitimate purchase through the App Store or Google Play, or a promotional mechanism we actually offered), we reserve the right to permanently deactivate the device and/or account involved, without any refund of amounts already paid, and without further notice. This applies regardless of whether the tampering was performed by you directly or via third-party software or a modified build of the App.
6. AI-generated content and disclaimers
The App uses AI (via Anthropic's Claude models) to help generate and tweak brewing recipes, scan kit instructions, and answer brewing-related prompts.
This is a hobbyist tool, not professional brewing or food-safety advice. AI-generated recipes, timings, temperatures, sanitation guidance, and any other suggestions are provided for general informational and hobbyist purposes only. They are not reviewed by a professional brewer, food scientist, or safety authority before being shown to you. AI systems can be wrong, incomplete, or produce advice that isn't safe or appropriate for your specific equipment, ingredients, or local regulations.
You are solely responsible for evaluating and using your own judgment about any AI-generated (or other) content in the App, including regarding fermentation safety, sanitation, alcohol content estimates, and the legality of home brewing/winemaking/cidermaking in your jurisdiction and any limits on quantities you may produce. We are not liable for any illness, injury, spoiled batch, property damage, or legal issue arising from your use of AI-generated or other content in the App.
7. Disclaimer of warranty
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING (WITHOUT LIMITATION) IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF SATISFACTORY QUALITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT AI-GENERATED CONTENT WILL BE ACCURATE OR SAFE TO FOLLOW. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS EXCLUDES OR LIMITS ANY WARRANTY OR RIGHT THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW (INCLUDING CONSUMER RIGHTS YOU MAY HAVE UNDER UK LAW).
8. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE APP, INCLUDING ANY BREW THAT FAILS, IS UNSAFE, OR IS SPOILED. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (B) £20.
NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS OUR LIABILITY FOR DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY OUR NEGLIGENCE, FRAUD, OR ANY OTHER LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE LIMITED OR EXCLUDED UNDER UK LAW.
9. Intellectual property
The App, its design, and its underlying software are owned by us. Content you create in the App (your brew records, notes, recipes) remains yours. By posting to the Forum, chat, or by sharing a recipe with another user, you grant us and other users the license needed to display that content within the App as intended (e.g. showing your Forum post to other users, or letting a recipient reconstruct a recipe you shared).
10. Third-party services
The App relies on third-party services — Supabase (hosting), Anthropic (AI), Google and Apple (authentication and billing), and Google AdMob (advertising for free-tier users). Your use of features backed by these services is also subject to those providers' own terms where applicable. We are not responsible for outages or issues originating from these third parties.
11. Changes to the App and these Terms
We may update, modify, or discontinue features of the App at any time, particularly given its current beta status and the pricing/tier structure described in Section 3, which is expected to evolve (e.g. once real App Store/Play Store billing fully replaces the current placeholder implementation).
We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll update the "Effective Date" above when we do, and for material changes we'll make reasonable efforts to notify you in-app. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
12. Termination
You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you violate these Terms, including the anti-abuse clause in Section 5.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the App will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your own country gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts instead.
